I graduated from high school in Dallas, Texas from David W. Carter High School. I attended Mountain View College and received my associates degree from there. I moved to Houston and attended University of Houston for a two years. Years later, I went back to school and finished my bachelor’s degree from University of Texas at Tyler. I waited another long period of time and went back to school for my master’s degree in school counseling. I obtained that degree in 2011 from Texas A&M Commerce.

After getting my bachelor’s degree from University of Texas at Tyler, I was hired to teacher either fifth grade or kindergarten at Malakoff Elementary in 1991. I began as a fifth grade teacher and after two weeks, I was moved to kindergarten for the rest of the year. I stayed in kindergarten and then asked to be moved to third grade. As it turned out I found my passion for that age kids and I remained in that position for twelve years. I then became a content mastery teacher and ESL teacher at the Middle School and High School. I eventually was able to work with dyslexic kids and GT kids here at MES while I pursued my master’s degree for school counseling. I eventually received my master’s degree from Texas A&M-Commerce in 2011 and have been the school counselor here since that time.
At the time I received my bachelor’s degree, I had become a single parent with two small children. I had returned to school and finished my degree. I applied for several jobs in the area and I was eventually hired here at Malakoff Elementary. Malakoff ISD has been the only school district where I have worked as a teacher and counselor. Both of my children graduated from MISD and I am proud to say, have become productive members of society. My son builds airplanes and my daughter is in the U.S Army and has been deployed overseas twice. Having been a career teacher/counselor here at MISD has been a wonderful experience for my children and I. So after 28 years of teaching and counseling at MISD, I can truly say that this is the place to be and I will continue to love the kids and love my job.
I have two grown children Robert and Lauren who actually went through Malakoff ISD. My son is currently employed in Fort Worth building F22 airplanes. He has a daughter and a son. My daughter, Lauren, is a 1st Sergeant in the U.S. Army. She has been deployed to a war zone twice in her career. That was extremely difficult to deal with for me as a parent but God was with her through it all. She returned home from war, married, and now has two precious babies-a boy and a girl.
Both of my children went to school here at Malakoff ISD and graduated from here as well. I even taught my daughter third grade here! That was an experience for sure! Needless to say, my children and I both can say that they received everything they needed to lead a successful, productive life from this school district. It has been a wonderful educational experience for us all!
I am currently in the process of renovating several older houses. It is dirty, hard work, but someone has to do it! I actually really enjoy getting behind a hammer or a paint brush and seeing old houses come to life. When I am not working on these projects, I enjoy being a “Nana” to my four grandchildren! That’s really the best thing ever!
